FAQ

When is the race?

The Great Milltown Duck Race is held on the 4th of July @ approximately 5:00pm

Where does the race take place?

The race starts at the Hwy. 90 Bridge in downtown Milton on the beautiful Blackwater River. Race can be viewed in its entirety from the shore and boardwalk.

How does it work?

The Racing Ducks are loaded into a front-end loader and dumped in the river from the 90 bridge, once the ducks hit the water, the current helps them make their way into the track that we have set up. The track is in a “V” shape (ropes strung with noodles) that feeds down to a chute.

What does the winner get?

The first racing duck in will net to the proud adopter 1st $1500, 2nd $750 and 3rd $250.

Who are the Blackwater Pyrates?

The Blackwater Pyrates is a community service organization that serves the Bagdad/Milton area the Blackwater River and basins. We do this through river clean up, boater safety and education and maritime historical preservation.  We are Pyrates with a purpose!

Where does the $ go?

The $ raised goes to the Blackwater Pyrates to help us in our above missions.  It is our only fundraiser that helps us do all the things we do for our community throughout the year.

How many ducks race?

Up to 5000… or, currently between 4,000 and 5,000.

How do you know all of the racing ducks will be in the race?

The Blackwater Pyrates conduct an inventory of the racing ducks annually to make sure all ducks are present and any damaged ducks are replaced.

Do I need to be present to win?

No, just provide your name and phone # and we will contact you if you win.

What is the difference in racing ducks and souvenir/token ducks?

Racing ducks are specifically designed to race in the water. They are all numbered and collected at end of race to be stored for next year’s race. The souvenir/token ducks are smaller and are given to anyone that adopts a racing duck. They are usually adorned as some kind of character.

What about corporate sponsorships?

We have different level sponsorships available.

While you cannot adopt ducks on our website, just send us an email and we can come to you.

Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon Raises Over $132,000 for Studer Family Children’s Hospital

Cat Country98.7 and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, raised more than $132,763 during the station’s Cat Country Cares For Kids Radiothon, presented by Wind Creek Atmore. The annual event at Cordova Mall raised funds for a new neonatal transport vehicle.

Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon was hosted by Cat Country 98.7 and WEAR ABC 3 News Pensacola host Sue Straughn as well as NewsRadio 92.3 & ESPN Pensacola.

The event provided listeners with the opportunity to hear from children and their parents about the high-quality care and recovery they received at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, which serves the Gulf Coast. Funds raised during the one-day broadcast completed the campaign to purchase a new Neonatal Transport Vehicle for Studer Family Children’s Hospital. This vehicle is equipped with a specialized incubator capable of delivering a level of quality care comparable to what a child would receive inside our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Morning show co-host Brent Lane said, “The Neonatal Transport Unit is vital to our community. To accomplish the goal of paying off the transport unit is such a blessing. The NICU at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital is a standout for care in the Southeast. Cat Country 98.7
was proud to join Channel 3, NewsRadio 92.3, and ESPN Pensacola to help tell the story of why this hospital impacts so many lives and how it continues to make this community better.”

Co-host Mel McCrae adds, “It’s an honor to play a small part in helping to raise funds for this equipment that will help so many families in our community. It’s always remarkable to see the outpouring of love and support from so many businesses and individuals each year.”
“We are grateful for the dedication and support of our media partners, volunteers, and Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation team members,” said Adrienne Maygarden, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “And, we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community who embrace our mission and join us in ensuring the highest level of neonatal care is available to local families throughout the communities we serve – keeping families close to home and their support systems.” Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, such as Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, are on the frontlines when it comes to protecting the health of future generations, but they can’t do it alone. Changing the health of even one child or family creates a ripple effect felt by communities for years to come. “The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on children has demonstrated the value of having a hospital dedicated to pediatrics,” said Will Condon, president of Studer Family Children’s Hospital. “The disease has hospitalized children at all ages — from two weeks old to 17 years old. It’s never been more important to have specialized pediatric care in our region, and never more important to have the community’s support for our healing Mission.”

Since 1983, CMN Hospitals has raised more than $7 billion in unrestricted funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. About the Studer Family Children’s Hospital The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart serves as the only children’s hospital in Northwest Florida. The Children’s Hospital offers a wide range of children’s medical care, from a pediatric emergency room and neonatal intensive care unit to a medical staff of more than 120 board-certified physicians across 30 pediatric specialties. The Children’s Hospital provides quality, compassionate care to children, regardless of their parents’ ability to pay.
