Cat Country 98.7 Raises Over $76,000 for Studer Family Children’s Hospital, a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Pensacola, FL (September 2, 2021) – Cat Country 98.7 and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, raised more than $76,000 during the station’s Cat Country Cares For Kids Radiothon, presented by Wind Creek Atmore. The annual event at Cordova Mall raised funds for a new neonatal transport vehicle.

Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon was hosted by radio personality, Brent Lane and WEAR ABC 3 News, Pensacola host, Sue Straughn as well as NewsRadio 92.3 & ESPN Pensacola. The event provided listeners with the opportunity to hear from children and their parents about the high-quality care and recovery they received at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, which serves the Gulf Coast. Sacred Heart

Morning show host Brent Lane said, “The Neonatal Transport Unit is an important part of the overall service to the community that makes up Studer Family Children’s Hospital. Cat Country 98.7 was proud to join WEAR ABC 3 News, NewsRadio 92.3, and ESPN Pensacola to help tell the story of why this hospital impacts so many lives and how it continues to make this community better.”

“We are fortunate to have such great community partners working alongside a community who cares deeply for others,” said Carol Carlan, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “We thank all those who have given generously of their resources, time and talents. You always come through when we need you the most!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, such as Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart are on the frontlines when it comes to protecting the health of future generations, but they can’t do it alone. Changing the health of even one child or family creates a ripple effect felt by communities for years to come.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on children has demonstrated the value of having a hospital dedicated to pediatrics,” said Will Condon, president of Studer Family Children’s Hospital. “The disease has hospitalized children at all ages — from two weeks old to 17 years old. It’s never been more important to have speciallized pediatric care in our region, and never more important to have the community’s support for our healing Mission.”

Since 1983, CMN Hospitals has raised more than $7 billion in unrestricted funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada.

In addition, the transport unit has a specialized incubator.  Capable of delivering a similar level of quality care as the NICU at Studer Family Wind_Creek_4C_Horz-removebgChildren’s Hospital. Please, join us in sharing hope with the children who make our hospital home. Whether for a day or months at a time, they deserve the best possible care and hope for a healthy future.

Donut Strike for Manna – June 23-25

Posted on: June 16th, 2021 by brent

mannaLocal law enforcement and fire departments — known for fighting crime and fires — are teaming up again this year to fight hunger.

These fierce first responders are going on strike against the portable breakfast treat beginning Wednesday, June 23 through Friday, June 25 to encourage the community to fight local hunger by supporting Manna. During the Donut Strike, they’ve promised not to eat a single donut until the community has donated 30,000 healthy meals to fight hunger in Northwest Florida.

Each day of the Donut Strike, officers and fire fighters man their posts from 3 to 6 p.m. at grocery store locations across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties to collect food and monetary donations from the public. For participating grocery locations in your area, please visit www.mannahelps.org. Food donations and financial gifts to Manna may also be dropped off at their hunger headquarters, 3030 North E Street, Pensacola, any day during the Strike, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Childhood hunger has worsened — one in three children in our community will go to bed hungry tonight,” said DeDe Flounlacker, Executive Director of Manna. “We so appreciate the support of our local first responders during these critical summer months, when children are out of school and the need for help increases.”

The success of Donut Strike is critically important this year, as Manna faces a second year of devastating food donation losses due to the cancellation of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. That food drive typically yields 60,000-80,000 pounds of food each year for Manna leading into the busier summer season, when children can no longer count on the free meals at school for nutrition.

This is the fourth year of the Donut Strike and so far, the pastry protest has raised more than 80,000 pounds of food to help fight hunger in our communities. The Donut Strike wrap party will be held at J’s Bakery and Café — the event’s donut sponsor — on June 29 at 8 a.m. to announce and celebrate the total meal count and of course to eat dozens and dozens of donuts and have coffee with our heroes. All are welcome.

Participating agencies include the Escambia County Fire Department, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Gulf Breeze Police Department, Midway Fire District, Pace Fire Rescue District, Pensacola Fire Department, and Pensacola Police Department.

Manna is a local, grassroots non-profit dedicated to fighting hunger in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. To learn more about Manna, the Donut Strike or to make a donation, visit the Manna Facebook page or www.mannahelps.org.
