Mission Restore Hope

Channel 3 News, Cat Country and United Way of West Florida hosted “Mission: Restore Hope:” an effort to help our community recover from Hurricane Sally.

Our community proudly raised over $275,000 for the United Way of West Florida.  The money will ALL stay local.

You can still donate:  TEXT 850RELIEF TO 41444

VISIT uwwf.org/sally

BACKGROUND ON HOW FUNDS ARE USED:

United Way of West Florida will administer the funds.  The money will support recovery efforts for those who were impacted by Hurricane Sally, including assistance to households, building supplies and materials, and support for underinsured and uninsured individuals.   Funds will remain in the community to support recovery efforts.

What the United Way of West Florida is doing:

We are working around the clock to support Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, as we recover TOGETHER from Hurricane Sally.

United Way of West Florida is here before, during, and after disasters. While there is much work to be done in helping our community recover, your gift of money or time helps families get back in their homes and give our vulnerable community members the care they need. UWWF works with local organizations to thoughtfully build strategies to create resilient communities.

WAYS TO AID IN RELIEF EFFORTS

GIVE

The most immediate and useful way to support recovery efforts in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties is through financial assistance. This allows relief organizations to purchase and provide the supplies and resources most needed. To donate to UWWF’s Hurricane Relief Fund, text 850RELIEF to 41444.

VOLUNTEER

You can also support recovery efforts through volunteerism. We have combined our efforts with Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE) to coordinate volunteers for the impacted areas. If you would like to support those affected by Hurricane Sally, please create a profile through the UWWF online volunteer portal, GET CONNECTED. BRACE will recruit volunteers by using this platform.

CONNECT TO RESOURCES

If you or someone you know need assistance, our information and referral hotline, 211 Northwest Florida, is available 24/7 identifying or accessing any support services in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sally. To access this completely free service, simply dial 211 from any landline or cellphone.

Please be patient when calling for resources, as the hotline has been inundated by calls.

Communities Caring at Christmas

Posted on: December 9th, 2015 by Candy

This is a program Cat Country has been proud to take part in w WEAR-TV and Gulf Power every year.

In 1979, WEAR-TV began the Communities Caring at Christmas program. It was the stations effort to share the true meaning of the holiday with those who are less fortunate. The program has evolved over the years to address the changing needs in our communities. Currently, Communities Caring provides new toys, clothing and daily living needs for abused, neglected or abandoned children living in foster care, children living in poverty and adults with developmental disabilities in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.

Communities Caring At Christmas is solely a volunteer effort. Leading the way are our corporate sponsor, Sandy Sansing Dealerships and the employees of Gulf Power Company. Hundreds of willing hands and open hearts provide the donations and manpower to make this program what it is. In 2013, through the generosity of compassionate individuals, organizations, churches and schools, we were able to share the joy of Christmas with almost 7,000 of our neighbors.

This year looks to be especially challenging as we try to meet the needs of a growing number of children coming into foster care and families in financial crisis. Were asking you to please help us continue the tradition of caring through your donation of cash, new toys or clothing. Your gifts can me brought or mailed to:

Thank you for your consideration and for sharing in the true meaning and spirit of the season.
