Pensacola, FL (September 2, 2021) – Cat Country 98.7 and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, raised more than $76,000 during the station’s Cat Country Cares For Kids Radiothon, presented by Wind Creek Atmore. The annual event at Cordova Mall raised funds for a new neonatal transport vehicle.

Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon was hosted by radio personality, Brent Lane and WEAR ABC 3 News, Pensacola host, Sue Straughn as well as NewsRadio 92.3 & ESPN Pensacola. The event provided listeners with the opportunity to hear from children and their parents about the high-quality care and recovery they received at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, which serves the Gulf Coast. Morning show host Brent Lane said, “The Neonatal Transport Unit is an important part of the overall service to the community that makes up Studer Family Children’s Hospital. Cat Country 98.7 was proud to join WEAR ABC 3 News, NewsRadio 92.3, and ESPN Pensacola to help tell the story of why this hospital impacts so many lives and how it continues to make this community better.”

“We are fortunate to have such great community partners working alongside a community who cares deeply for others,” said Carol Carlan, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “We thank all those who have given generously of their resources, time and talents. You always come through when we need you the most!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, such as Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart are on the frontlines when it comes to protecting the health of future generations, but they can’t do it alone. Changing the health of even one child or family creates a ripple effect felt by communities for years to come.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on children has demonstrated the value of having a hospital dedicated to pediatrics,” said Will Condon, president of Studer Family Children’s Hospital. “The disease has hospitalized children at all ages — from two weeks old to 17 years old. It’s never been more important to have speciallized pediatric care in our region, and never more important to have the community’s support for our healing Mission.”

Since 1983, CMN Hospitals has raised more than $7 billion in unrestricted funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada.

In addition, the transport unit has a specialized incubator.  Capable of delivering a similar level of quality care as the NICU at Studer Family Wind_Creek_4C_Horz-removebgChildren’s Hospital. Please, join us in sharing hope with the children who make our hospital home. Whether for a day or months at a time, they deserve the best possible care and hope for a healthy future.

Cat Country Cares

A total of $117,628 was raised to help sick and injured babies and children throughout our region during the Second Annual Cat Country 98.7 Cares for Kids Radiothon on Aug. 21. All funds raised will support the construction of the Bear Family Foundation Pediatric Oncology Center for Hope, the region’s only pediatric oncology center, at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021.

Participating radio stations included Cat Country 98.7, News Radio 92.3, ESPN Pensacola 1330AM/99.1FM and Pensacola Playlist 94.5. Throughout the event, listeners heard stories of bravery and inspiration from children and families who have benefited from the care and expertise of the hospital’s highly trained physicians and staff. In addition to pledges from individuals, many businesses called in to make pledges and challenged other businesses to make donations, as well.

“We are grateful for another successful Radiothon!” said Carol Carlan, President, Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “Once again, our community steps up to help our kids. Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors who joined us to make miracles happen every day!”

Carlan said that a special donation of $75,000 came from the late Peter Fodor of Pensacola, a generous donor and community supporter who designated the gift for Radiothon to support the Children’s Hospital.

Morning Cohost Brent Lane said, “The mission of the Studer Family Children’s Hospital and the mission of Cat Country 98.7 are the same — to serve our local community. We like to be helpers and are proud to join Ascension Sacred Heart in helping kids and families right here in Cat Country.”

Wind Creek Hospitality matched funds donated up to $20,000. Other sponsors included Gulf Winds Credit Union.

The community’s local Children’s Miracle Network hospital, the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart is a 126-bed facility that serves as the only children’s hospital in Northwest Florida.
