A specially trained facility dog can provide comfort and emotional support to children during procedures, treatments and difficult hospital stays. A gift of $85 can help provide one full day of care and support from a facility dog.

Cat Country Cares for Kids raises $301,400

The 7th annual Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon, presented by Hanto & Clarke General Contractors, raised $301,400 to acquire state-of-the-art equipment that utilizes heat to treat tumors or epilepsy — a first for Northwest Florida. Hosted by Cat Country 98.7’s Team (including Brent Lane, Jordan Glass, and Chris Clare) and WEAR ABC 3 News Pensacola’s Sue Straughn, the one-day broadcast featured heartfelt stories from patient families and highlighted the critical role the Children’s Hospital plays in delivering advanced, compassionate care close to home. All of the funds raised will directly support Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), a minimally invasive, precision-guided laser therapy that offers new hope for children with complex brain tumors and epilepsy. The technology allows for safer, more effective treatment, improving outcomes and quality of life while reducing the need for open surgery.

“It’s an honor to play a part in raising funds for technology that will have such a powerful impact on children and families in our community,” said WEAR host Sue Straughn.

Over $220,000 Raised for NICU Babies in Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon

During the 2024 Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon, patients and their families shared their stories on the impact caregivers at Studer Family Children’s Hospital have made in their lives. Generous members of the community pledged $220,538 to support the Studer Family Children’s Hospital NICU Angel Eye Program. This program involves procuring 72 cameras to offer live-streaming video access to monitor every child’s progress live in the NICU. This system enables care teams and families to share important milestones and heartwarming moments through real-time updates.

Listeners tuned in to Cat Country 98.7 FM, NewsRadio 92.3 FM and WEAR ABC 3 throughout the day, getting first-hand perspectives from children and caretakers who have benefitted from the care offered at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart.

“I would like to thank all the people who made this event a success including our media partners, volunteers, associates and the community members who joined us in supporting our community’s most vulnerable children,” said Adrienne Maygarden, president of the Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “I also want to thank our pediatric patients and their families for trusting us with their care. Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon Raises Over $132,000 for Studer Family Children’s Hospital

Cat Country98.7 and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, raised more than $132,763 during the station’s Cat Country Cares For Kids Radiothon, presented by Wind Creek Atmore. The annual event at Cordova Mall raised funds for a new neonatal transport vehicle.

Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon was hosted by Cat Country 98.7 and WEAR ABC 3 News Pensacola host Sue Straughn as well as NewsRadio 92.3 & ESPN Pensacola.

The event provided listeners with the opportunity to hear from children and their parents about the high-quality care and recovery they received at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, which serves the Gulf Coast. Funds raised during the one-day broadcast completed the campaign to purchase a new Neonatal Transport Vehicle for Studer Family Children’s Hospital. This vehicle is equipped with a specialized incubator capable of delivering a level of quality care comparable to what a child would receive inside our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Morning show co-host Brent Lane said, “The Neonatal Transport Unit is vital to our community. To accomplish the goal of paying off the transport unit is such a blessing. Cat Country 98.7 Raises Over $76,000 for Studer Family Children’s Hospital, a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Pensacola, FL (September 2, 2021) – Cat Country 98.7 and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, raised more than $76,000 during the station’s Cat Country Cares For Kids Radiothon, presented by Wind Creek Atmore. Radiothon raises more than $117,000

A total of $117,628 was raised to help sick and injured babies and children throughout our region during the Second Annual Cat Country 98.7 Cares for Kids Radiothon on Aug. 21. All funds raised will support the construction of the Bear Family Foundation Pediatric Oncology Center for Hope, the region’s only pediatric oncology center, at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021.

Participating radio stations included Cat Country 98.7, News Radio 92.3, ESPN Pensacola 1330AM/99.1FM and Pensacola Playlist 94.5. Throughout the event, listeners heard stories of bravery and inspiration from children and families who have benefited from the care and expertise of the hospital’s highly trained physicians and staff. In addition to pledges from individuals, many businesses called in to make pledges and challenged other businesses to make donations, as well.

“We are grateful for another successful Radiothon!” said Carol Carlan, President, Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. “Once again, our community steps up to help our kids. Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors who joined us to make miracles happen every day!”

Carlan said that a special donation of $75,000 came from the late Peter Fodor of Pensacola, a generous donor and community supporter who designated the gift for Radiothon to support the Children’s Hospital.

Morning Cohost Brent Lane said, “The mission of the Studer Family Children’s Hospital and the mission of Cat Country 98.7 are the same — to serve our local community. We like to be helpers and are proud to join Ascension Sacred Heart in helping kids and families right here in Cat Country.”

Wind Creek Hospitality matched funds donated up to $20,000. Other sponsors included Gulf Winds Credit Union.
