Help Our Neighbor – raises over $87,000
Cat Country 98.7 partnered with WEAR-ABC3 & WFGX-35 to raise money in “OPERATION: HELP OUR NEIGHBOR”.
Hurricane Michael came ashore on October 10, 2018 as the strongest Hurricane ever to make landfall in Northwest Florida. Panama City and Apalachicola were devastated by this Category 4 storm. Entire communities were leveled and residents were left with almost nothing. Disasters like Hurricane Michael have previously hit Pensacola and the Community here rallied to donate more than $87,000 in a one-day fund drive led by CatCountry 98.7 and WEAR-ABC 3.
The funds raised today go directly to the Florida Disaster Fund to be immediately put to use helping rebuild devastated communities around Panama City. “Our listeners are no stranger to storms and this could have easily been our community,” says Brent Lane from CatCountry 98.7. Brent joined WEAR’s news anchor Sue Straughn starting at 5am Friday to broadcast live throughout the day. “Thank you for this amount of love and support from our generous community,” says Sue Straughn.
Had Hurricane Michael landed only 100 miles to the west, this would have been our community. “The difference between a half inch of rain and total devastation is 3 counties,” said Lane.
Dave Hoxeng, station owner, said “CatCountry 98.7’s mission is to help our community in every way that we can.”
